Hey there senior, soon to be senior, or parent of a senior! Are you starting to think about planning your senior photo session? Picturing your outfits, hair, location, but not sure when you should book your senior photos to make your dreams a reality? I am here to help!
Step 1: Decide the season that you want your photos to reflect!
Summer, fall, winter, and spring all have their pros and cons when it comes to photos! Winter is by far the least popular season, because it is SO COLD out, and really hard to show off your cute outfits (unless you want some cozy photos in the snow!) Do you love spring flowers? Do you dream of the changing fall leaves? Or do you love the bright blue skies in the summer time?
Step 2: Once you have your desired season selected, it is time to book!
To guarantee your desired session date is available, it is always a good idea to book as far in advance as possible! But the high school schedule filled with with extracurriculars, family time, and hanging out with friends can be pretty busy, so booking 6+ months in advance isn’t always feasible!
Season: Fall!
Fall sessions are typically shot between September-November (although the exact time the leaves will change in Missouri can be a bit unpredictable!) Fall by far the most popular season for photos, with everyone wanting to showcase the changing leaves. The cooler weather, but not yet freezing allows for a great range of outfit options! You can add in layers, warm weather accessories like scarves, and possibly my favorite accessory-hats! I recommend booking fall sessions at least 4 months in advance! I will most likely have available options 4 months out, however it is not guaranteed. The closer we get to the fall season, the more likely all of the slots will be booked!
Season: Winter!
Winter sessions are typically shot between December through the beginning of March. Sessions during the winter may be more difficult due to weather, but if you love the cold months then I am all for it! Winter sessions may be more suited to urban locations, downtown STL or Main Street St. Charles are great options because you get nice scenery without featuring dying foliage. We can also rent out a studio space, or shoot in your home! I would still recommend scheduling winter sessions 3+ months in advance, however you may still have some luck if you end up booking a little later!
Season: Spring!
Spring sessions are typically shot between the end of March through May. If you love fresh blooms then spring is for you! Spring is also a popular season for senior photos because the backdrops are so beautiful! This is also a great season to book cap and gown sessions, or a session in your college gear! Spring dates can go pretty quickly as well, so I would recommend booking 4+ months out!
Season: Summer!
Summer sessions are typically shot between June and August. These sessions are so fun for incoming seniors because it kicks off their senior year! You will be able to guarantee photos are ready by yearbook deadlines, and you may have more availability since you aren’t in school and may not have sports or extracurriculars to work around. These dates can fill up, so I would recommend booking your senior photos 4+ months in advance if possible! It never hurts to start thinking about your senior session during your junior year! But if you aren’t ready to plan that far in advance just reach out as soon as you are ready to and we will see if we can get you on the calendar!
